hi, guys. On the letter that i received today for interview (Dec.07) it says bring:
"proof that your spouse has been a U.S. citizen for at least the past 3 years (birth cert. natur. cert., certificate of citizenship...)
What does it mean? I am asking because my wneh i get my citizenship i want to applyfor my father who is in U.S and my mother abroad. Do i have to be 3 years a citizen before I apply for them? Why it says "at least 3 years"???
Next, on intervies should i come with my husband and children?
How should i behaive and dress? What if they ask me about my arrest? It says interview will alst for about 2 hours? why that long? Thank you..

What it means

Melany,

Do not panic.

This is perfectly normal.

In order to qualify for naturalization after 3 years (rather than 5), you have to have been married to one person, who has been a US citizen for those 3 years. That is all.

Take to the interview whatever documents they have requested.

So, if your husband was born a US. citizen, bring his official birth certificate (official copies are available usually from some state agency in the state of his birth for a small fee). Or, if he was born a US citizen abroad, he should have a certificate of citizenship, or if he was naturalized (at least 3 years before your interview), bring his certificate of naturalization. If you have one of those, you will be fine. No problem.

And, to prove you were married to him, you can bring the official copy of your marriage certificate (but if they didn't ask for it, you don't have to bring it).

In my wife's case, they asked only to see our child's birth certificate (which named both parents).

As for filing petitions for your parents, no, you don't have to wait 3 years. As soon as you get your citizenship certificate you can do it.
