National Interest Waiver

Can any one explain what is "National Interest Waiver". In USCIS prcessing dates for I-140, there is one category called
" Advance degree or exceptional ability requesting National Interest Waiver"

can some one explain, what this means EB2 or EB3?

Thanks for the reply, mine EB2 concurrent 140 & 485 RD is 10/21. called my lawyer asked about the status of 140, she said, currentl they r processing ULY 15 2003, which is the date for that category i have mentioned..so thats why i wnat to confirm..my L iscleared on Aug 9, 2003.
 
If you filed a labor, then it's not NIW. NIW is special EB2 category where LC is waived (in the "national interest").
