Namecheck status at VSC

All, I called up VSC today and tried to enquire about the status of my background/name/security check.
The lady I talked to told me that they don't encourage this inquiry any more and that I need to contact another number and ask them for a referral.
Turns out that the number she gave me (1-800-375-5283) is the same one I called in the first place. Talk about govt ineptitude...
Anyway, has anyone else had this situation of having called VSC for this inquiry and was told that they don't do it any more?
Suggestions?

Most likely you will get the same answer. I think USCIS is fed up with FBI name check delays. So, they do not want to give out any information...that seems to be their new policy

Ha ha ha!!
So USCIS is getting fed up with someone else's delay.
The irony is so thick I could hang my hat on it. :rolleyes:
