Name error on approved AP

My wife and I got our 3rd AP approved on 1 June 2004 (applied 21 Apr 2004). But in my wife's AP, the lastname is printed wrong (mixed up with mine). All other info like A#, DOB, Address are correct.

My lawyer is sending an expedite request to indicate this service center error (names on application were correct). She is recommending a wait for travel plans.

Does anybody have a similar experience? Did you face any problems back at the POE? Any experiences on a corrected AP being sent by VSC? Should I go ahead and make travel plans - and try name correction at the local office? Would travel with old correct AP help (for supporting reference)?

Current valid AP: expires Aug 27, 2003
New approved AP on Jun 1, 2004: expires May 31, 2005 (has name error)
Travel plans: Fly out of US Jul 21, and return back Sep 7, 2004.

Subsequently we went to the local Boston office, to try to get the AP name error corrected, but they mentioned that they cannot correct errors on a doc from VSC. But checking with an inspector, they mentioned that a lastname error (with spouse's name) should not be a problem at the POE. So we bought the tickets for travelling out on July 21st.

Two days back (a month after the original expedite correction request to VSC), my lawyer got a call from VSC, asking us to send back the incorrect new AP, which I have FedExed back to VSC grudgingly on Jul 9th. We have sent return FedEx envelope to VSC with ticket itenary, etc. Hoping that we get back the correction by Jul 19th.
Worst case scenario if we do not get the corrected document for weeks, would be to prepone my wife's return journey to before Aug 27 (date on valid older AP).

Anybody has experience on AP document corrections, do they correct on the same document; my key concern is to have date before July 21 on the corrected document (before the departure date). I hope the EAC number does not change, since it is not a new application. We do have copies of the original June 1 approval from the website.

Comments welcome.

VSC actually corrected the AP on Jul 19th (with Issue date Jul 19 and valid till Jul 18 2005) using the same EAC#. They sent it back by the Fedex envelope the lawyers attached. Even though a Jun 1 original AP approval, took till Jul 19 for correction, at least it made it before the travel date of Jul 21.
