I received an email from FBI that my name check was completed on April 16, 2003 (yes 2003) and the results were forwarded to USCIS, Washington DC. Now I thoroughly confused as to 1) why it was done on April 16, 2003 when my RD was 03/26/2003 and ND 04/10/2003 and 2) why it was forwarded to Washington DC.

I know there were number of discussions on name check in this forum and sometime I remember reading that it is valid only for 35 days.

Does anyone has experience with this name check thing?

Incidentally my FP1 was done on 05/16/2003 and I don't have any updates in my case status online... still the same 570 to 600 days yada yada yada message.
 
1. FBI name check process is initiated immediately after USCIS receives your I-485 application (I believe FBI receives a copy of biographic information form you filed with I-485 to start this process).
2. I do not know why results were sent to Washington,DC instead of Nebraska. I got the similar reply from FBI and I am not worrying much. It should be OK as long as USCIS got results.
3. There is another name check called IBIS check done by USCIS and it is valid for 35 days and has noting to do with FBI name check. There seems to be no way to verify if this check is complete within USCIS.

Usually FP results will be sent back on same day to USCIS (It has nothing to do with FBI name check).

Do you register somewhere to get the FBI name check email? I have registered my email at cis.gov to get updates on my case. But I haven't received any updates so far.

Thanks VisaK. I did inquire about FP1 results couple months after I had done it and they did tell me that the results were sent on the same day to USCIS.

ClevelandGuru, as far the results of name check, you wouldn't know about it unless you inquire. I had posted a format sometime back. These days I believe FBI only accepts email inquiry.. no fax or phone.

When and how did u contact FBI ? How long did they take to reply to your inquiry ? Also could u please post a format of the letter you prepared. Thanks for your help.

I sent a fax first on 07/19/2004, I didn't get any response. So followed up with another fax inquiry on 09/21/2004. I didn't get any response again. So I emailed them on 10/11/2004.. no response.. emailed again on 10/21/2004. On 11/03/2004, I got a response referring to my fax on 09/21/2004.

Here's a template that I used. Actually I got it from this forum and apparently it worked for fax. I don't know about email. It is something that I just learnt today and sent them an email.
