I thought of starting a new thread on the "Name Check" formalities as there seem to be more and more cases for Name Check Clearance.

Some questions on the Name Check process for which guidance is requested :-

1. Is it a good idea to have the Name Check clearance from FBI done before one goes to the consulate for the CP interview? Or is this something only the Consulate will do?

2. Is the "name check" the same as obtaining the "FBI Identification Record under the guidelines of the United States Department of Justice order (DO)556-73" See attached file. I downloaded from a thread on this forum.

3. What is the process for getting this done? (where should the application be made, format of application / letter, costs, time taken)

4. Should this be done for spouse and dependent children as well

All help on this issue appreciated.

Mandatory

Name check is mandatory now for any kind of immigration benefit regardless of US citizenship , any US Visa..........
