Name Check status pending.

Following is the response I got from FBI. How could my name check is pending since July 10, 2003? What can I do to speed up the process? It seems my approval is held up because this now.

I am responding to your email dated October 26, 2004, concerning your
name check status for immigration purposes.

A review of the FBI's Name Check Program database revealed that a
request from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
for you was received on July 10, 2003, and is currently in a pending
status. Due to increased national security concerns, in December 2002 to
early 2003, the USCIS submitted an additional 2.7 million name checks
for processing to the FBI. Although 99.7% of these cases have been
finalized, our efforts to complete the remaining requests continue. This
has delayed processing of other requests.

You may be assured that the immigration authorities will be notified at
the earliest possible date upon completion of your case. I am sorry we
are unable to be of more assistance at this time.

Sincerely yours,

name check pending

Dear All:
I am wiriting this email to inquire about any helpful information regarding my pending name check. First, I did my I485 inteview a month back with my spouse. The took our index FP and everything went fine. Then the examiner went outsidethe room with our passport and retruned a while after to inform us that my name check ispending while my wife has been completed. ince i am the primary applicant they could not stamp her passport, given thefact that i did my FP before her!!!
now, I am in the waiting room( the big one:)=city) to get some answer from the USCIS. How can i get phone number or anything to contact the proper channel? who are the proper channels, anyway?
Doesanyone know a phone number or address to check when the USCIS inititated the name check process?
Is there a way to expedite the process? or is it lost in transition in some government office in the east coast?
For any helpful info, i will greatly appreciated it. Thanks and good luck for all
