Name check pending

Hello,

I would like your thoughts on the following:

Some of us have been waiting for years for a name check, let's assume that someone out there is really a bad guy. Waiting for FBI to clear (or capture) a bad guy for a couple of years obviously gives the bad guy enough time to do their thing, be it a nine/eleven type or otherwise.
In other words FBI/USCIS ineptitude is providing potential terrorists the needed time frame to carry out their acts.

Would this not be a very interesting story for the news?
How would we go about it?

Thanks

gmohdez,

I totally agree with what you have stated. The sad truth is that most security checks and procedures make life miserable for the honest hardworking population. Most security measures are based on perception and most govts feel that if they can put in measures that make it seem as if things are becoming safer they will do it. The effectiveness of these so called secutiry measures are rarely scrutinized by anyone. I am sure that such a study would find valuable resources being wasted on conducting "name checks" and other "security checks" on hardworking immigrants like us. All this has done is made this painful GC process almost unbearable for a lot of people. What more can I say ..

Well

The main point is that nobody really cares about this issue. With all the problems, why would US public or press be interested in intricated security procedure for legal immigrants Now, if it was somehow related to expediting (or skipping at all) security checks for illegal aliens, i bet it would be very interesting for everyone including politicians.

As for not being able to catch the real terrorists...that is one really big surprise, isn't it?

The whole purpose of Name check appears to be to protect DHS/FBI's backside...never mind that they have totally slowed the process down to a crawl. This way if there is another situation like the 9/11 nutjobs getting visa approvals, DHS can point the finger to some other agency and FBI can say they are understaffed and overworked...

I believe that people do care, not about us, but definitely about how little protection they are getting and how the system increases danger to them instead of helping. That should be the focus of the story.
The fact that if real security checks are expedited will help us, hardworking legal immigrants, is merely a coincidence, and maybe preferably not even mentioned in the story. Our gain is in the expedited process regardless of the reason that causes the speed.
If we can find a journalist in a reputable paper interested in this side of the story, I am sure there will be changes, even if for political reasons.
