Name Check and firearms purchase

When you purchase a firearm the dealer runs your name and detalis
through NICS(National Instant Check System) with the FBI. Is this the same
as the Name Check system? If it is the same, does it mean that you wont have any problems with your Name Check for Naturalization because you didnt have any problems with the NICS.
I have learnt of cases where people's name matched with someone else's on the database and they had to wait a long time to purchase a firearm.

Not sure about that, however I am under the impression that you have to be a US Citizen to purchase a firearm - is this correct?

LPRs can buy firearms

No, permanent residents also can also purchase firearms. You have to put the A number on the application form and also show the dealer your greencard. However, non-immigrants cant purchase any firearms.

I was searching on the internet and I still cant determine whether the name check that firearms dealers use is the same as the USCIS. The only thing I know for sure is that for the firearm check, they use a computer which is directly linked to the FBI database, and it tells very quickly whether you are cleared or not. If youre not cleared immediately then it can take a very long time to get cleared.

I'm not so sure

I'm not so sure about it. The FBI may call it by different names, but NNCP (National Name Check Program) and NICS (National Instant Check Process) may amount to the same thing. This is because the procedure and database that they use to do your name check and other details may be the same.

NNCP uses CLASSIFIED databases exempt from FOIA act and also is liked to
Government Terrorism suspect lists, and many other secret lists. IF your name gets on one of those lists it takes time to resolve. NNCP does not search just by your first/last name. It searches by all combinations of names that even **sound** similar to your name.NNCP results are analyzed by professional FBI analysts. NICS lists are available to Gun Dealers!

Merely searching for your name in an FBI list does not mean all databases are the same. The missions of these 2 namechecks are different

Draw your own conclusions!

Oh well...I guess I'll have to apply for Naturalization to find out whether I'm in any of these lists. Hopefully, I dont get stuck in the name check. Thanks for responding anyway.
