Hello everybody,
I have this question, I hope you folks could help.
I am permanent resident and waiting to reach my 3 years for my Citizenship, I'm almost there just 3 more months.
I am a native from Peru and when I filed for my green card I did it with my married last name and my passport had my maiden name. Until, then everything fine. My stepfather adopted me when I was married, the reason of the adoption was because we always live as family since I was 8 years old, I am now 27 and we didnt do it before since my biologial dad had to sign off the adoption paperwork, and he was never in the picture (It really didnt reflect any changes in my name in the US but I changed my name in my country of origin) I got a new passport with my new name. how will these situation can harm me when I file for Naturalization?
Thanks,
Hanna

Based on my case, I can tell you what I know.
You can change or decide which name you want to use as a US Citizen. All you need to do is to put your new/final name on N-400.
During the interview (of course, USCIS will verify you if it is really you, whichever name you are using), you will be asked if you REALLY want to change it. You have another chance to change your mind there.
If you want to go for a new name, you will be asked to sign off on the [Petition for Name Change].
Once you passed the interview, you will need to go a Court for Oath Ceremony because your district court approves your name change.
After the Oath ceremony, you will be given two papers, US Citizenship Certificate and Approved Petition for Name Change.
One thing with Name Change.... it causes a bit of delay, obviously.
You can see my sig.
