Name change

If you change your name, are you going to lose your credit history and the like?

i do not think so. credit history seems ties to your ssn rather than the "name" only.

people run credit check on you when you apply for jobs, when they see your name don't match, you don't even get a chance to explain...

All names listed

You credit report will include all names. However, you should establish credit history with the new name. Change the name on your credit cards/bank accounts/loans. Then in about 3 months the new name would show up on the Credit History. Further check websites of Equifax, Transunion, & Experian to see if they can add your new name to the SSN.

Of course if do not want to disclose your old name to your new employer on your resume then you should wait till your credit report shows your new name on the top. But your old name stays at least 7-10 years on your credit report.

W-2s not reported to Credit Bureaus

Generally, all information execept your credit status comes from Credit Card Applications, Bank Account applications and like. This is generally what you put have provided your creditor.

Do you have to inform IRS when you have changed your name on Social Security card ?
Once you updated your name with the Social Security office, IRS will update within 10 days. The next time you file your taxes use your new name.
