Name Change Situation !! Need Help

Hi all,

I passed the Naturalization test a month ago. However the final decision was not made because I wanted to change my name. The officer told me that my case is now pending. So, I need to go court to change my name, get the certificate, and evidences....then send them back to the office.
When I came home, I googled how to change name, and realized It would cost a lot of money and the process seems pretty complex. So I decided not to change my name anymore (pretty stupid isnt it ?!). I wrote a letter explain my situation and sent it back to the office, hoping that they could proceed my case like I never requested a name change or anything. I expect to receive a schedule to attend the Oatch Ceremony in mail. It has been over a month, and I have not received anything from USCIS. What should I do now ?

You're confused. Your request to change your name doesn't delay the naturalization decision; it potentially delays your oath date after they've made the decision, because the name change would require a judicial oath, and judicial oaths are held less frequently (except in some areas where all oaths are judicial oaths).

Second, the money and complexity for a name change is only if you want to change your name outside the naturalization process. But a name change incorporated into the naturalization process is as simple as requesting the new name on the N-400 or at the interview and then showing up for the oath, and there is no additional fee. USCIS handles the complex court paperwork behind the scenes for you.
