Name Change Question!

Okay, i am not scheduled yet for oath but my case is approved. Is it too late to change my last name due to marriage or does that require a judicial ceremony? Can i just take my marriage certificate on the day of the ceremony and ask them to change it. I think after all this delay, i will just wait if they postpone my oath date. No more delays for me. Has anyone had any experience with this. I was told that it is too late to change by one but someone else told me it's not too late that i can take in my marriage certificate the day of and ask them to change it. Is it true? Any advice will be welcomed! Thank you.:)

Your Oath Letter includes a question about whether you have married since you had the interview. It certainly would be the best opportunity to notify the USCIS about it.

If you do get married between the interview time and oath time, just bring proof of marriage with you as for the name change....why not keep your maiden name so that friends can always find you, those friends that may not know you have been married.

Thank you. I am from Guyana and everyone still basically knows somebody that knows somebody that knows you. So, we generally are able to find each other, except for extreme cases. I don't have that problem. Besides, it's sentimental. I have been in love with my husband since i was a little girl. We grew up together and he was the first boyfriend i ever had. We made a promise to each other to get married when we were younger. We were separated by distance for years. We finally found each other again and i have waited so long to have his name. After all that, i am going to take it.:)

While you have quite a bit of time ahead of you , you can gather some documentation related to your long-standing relationship with your boyfriend then husband (photos even old photos, correspondence, affidavits of friends) to show that it is a long-time/lifetime commitment and that the fact that you are changing name is not because of any lack of commitment.

Oh, i already have all of that. I also have most of our forms filled out. I could have mailed in the I-130 already but due to my history with USCIS, i was afraid of the whole updated application process. I did not want to have to hear them say they lost my file while trying to update it. I would really die.lol. I want to have his name, it is for sentimental reasons for me and tradition where i am from.:)
