Name change question

Hello friends,

Is it easier to do the name change during interview process or should one wait and do it after Citizenship process?

My concern is, if I do name change during interview, it might delay my application process or background check process which means more waiting game for the Oath.

Do citizenship applications with name change request take longer to process than the normal ones?

Any thoughts?

I was under the same assumption when my wife was thinking of change her maiden name to my lastname. Later, after much searching around, we realized that changing name during N-400 is the easiest and most hassel free way to get the name change done.

My wife opted for name change during inteview and she had no problems.

Don't worry your name change will not delay background check. If you want to change your name then do it during N-400. Consider it a free service from USCIS since you will have spend some $$ if you want change name later through courtorder.

Hello Master:

Did your wife get some sort of court order with the naturalization certificate which indicates she can legally change her name in other documents? For instance: SSN, drivers license, bank account etc?

Thanks
