Name Change on N400

Hello all,

I am about to file my N-400 and wish to change my name.

Currently, my name has 4 words as A, B C, D

First name: A
Middle name: B C
Last Name: D

Since my current name is too long, I would like to remove my middle name, yes, both B and C and wish to have my new first name as A and last name as D.

Please advise what I should do.
 
Oh well, I meant, can I do this on the application? Would I need any documents like affidavits etc?

Do you see any problems?
 
When I filed my app, I mentioned my full name. A B C D E where A is the first name and E is the last name. Later I changed my mind and requested for name change during the interview. I went with First name and Last name i.e A and E. The Officer changed the name and I received the certificate with the new name during the Oath. If you change the name, you have to go to court for the oath. I went through the same yesterday.

The real work only begins after you change your name. You have to update your DL, SSN, bank accounts, inform employer, change names on credit cards, change name on your property deeds, vechicle registration etc etc. There are several threads on this topic. But I think it is worth it if you want to change the name. The long name was real pain to fill many forms. No form has enough space hence every office made their own version of my name. My credit report had 14 different names on it. Well... hopefully not any more.

One more question:

My first name is A......z

I wish to change it to A.... and remove the last character of z.

Can this be done? Is the process the same as above? Do you see any problems in doing this?
 
No additional fee for name change.

You can change your first/middle name the way you want. One letter of all the letters of the firstname, they don't care. It is only for the last name they ask questions. I don't know why. Perhaps it is registred in all the databases.
