Hi,

I would like to apply for name change...on my wife's GC...does anyone have any idea on how long this process is .I was going to apply for a new passport with new surname....but before that I wanted to get an idea on how long it was taking to get a name change done at INS and get a new GC.

It's easier to apply for name change at all other places...wondering how easy and time consuming it was at INS.

If anyone has done it recently please post the process on how to start and go about it......

Thanks in Advance....

You will have to file the form I-90 and pay the appropriate fees.
Once you file, you will also need to return the existing GC. BCIS will place a temporary I-551 stamp in her passport. It can take anything between 2 months to 1 year to get a new card.
Before that you will need to change her name on her passport.
You will also have to change names at Social security records, drivers license, etc.
It is a big hassle and think twice before undertaking any such tasks.
