Name change in Green Card

My last name and first name was got flipped in my green card. that is how I applied in GC application because of flipping in my social security number ( UNITED STATES ) document. When I took passport in india 13 yrs back in hyderabad india , there is no last name and first name mentioned in the passport only one long name was written,. Last time ( 2 yrs back) when I renewed my passport, there is a first name and last name mentioned in the passport , which is different from what I had in green card. Since I got my GC 4 yrs back and I can wait for one more year for citizenship , I want to change as soon as possible to remove any security headaches. So I called INS and they told me a procedure to change, but I decided to look for a lawyer so that he/she may help if some thing unexpected comes out. I was asked to wait until citizenship is applied other wise it will be very confusing for INS to change at this time. Any body has any experience with this type of issues. Any good lawyers in Cental Jersey who handles this type of cases ?. When can I apply for citizenship . How much time it takes for citizenship to come after once it is applied

Don't change your name now. One can change the name to what ever he/she likes while applying for citizenship. There is a section in the I400 forum which asks if you want to change your name. You just need to say Yes and write down the new name that you want. Then you will get US passport with the new name and then you can change your name in SSN etc. Till then keep the ball rolling.
