so today i looked at my n-400 application again and i totally forgot to fill out the name change and i also received the oath ceremony letter today, so i was wondering if theres any way i could change my name before the ceremony or during? i forgot to fill it out because i heard that you only can change your name when you pass the naturalization test.

The name change only takes effect on oath day (which is obviously after you passed the naturalization test), but the name change can be requested when the N-400 is initially submitted or at the start of the interview before you take the test.

Unless your name change is taking spouse's last name, you'll need to delay the oath to get the name change. The delay is for two reasons: (1) USCIS needs to submit some paperwork to the court to process your name change, and (2) naturalization name changes (other than taking your spouse's last name) require a judicial oath, which are held less frequently than the regular administrative oaths unless you're in a location where all oaths are judicial oaths.

the thing is i just want to remove my middle name and keep the same name, so now there no way i can change it? can i write a letter to them about this or not?
