Name change and its effect. Is it worth the trouble?

If I change my first name and last name (I am a guy) during citizenship what are the implications?

Do we have to get name change in SSN, DL, Credit Bureau? What are the list of places or organization you will have to get the name changed?

Also if I am planning to get OCI, any problem with name change in various Indian government departments (like PAN card). Is US court order for name change valid in India?

Basically I am trying to see whether the name change is worth the trouble.

First make sure your local office does name changes, there are a lot of offices that won't do name changes, like San Jose and San Francisco that don't process name changes. I know you want pros and cons, and I don't know about that as I didn't do any name change, but if you decide to do a name change and your local office does name changes that should be the easiest and cheapest way to get a name change done.

Changing the name with SSA, DMV and my local bank were very easy and short procedures. Changing the name with credit cards and with my employer did not go as smoothly because of the lousy customer service representatives. But eventually, I had it done everywhere I wanted. For me going through all these troubles was fun because it felt like starting a new life as an equal member of this society, but for those who hate dealing with bureaucracy, it may not be worth the troubles.

Assuming that you are currently a citizen of India -- check out my posting at http://www.r2iclubforums.com/forums/f19/name-change-before-after-usc-11086/#post206799
