Name Change after greencard

My wife recently obtained greencard thru family based immigration. She officially kept her maiden name until the GC process got over. Now she wants to change to her married name. How does one go about this? Should this be done prior to obtaining Social Security Number or after obtaining SSN? Does she have to inform INS and request a new/changed GC to be issued? How about the Indian passport?

Any useful information is really appreciated.
