Hi all, time has come today and it is time to send n400 package,
I have taken few trips outside of US and stayed for more than 6 (less than 12) months and I returned from my longest trip exactly 5 years ago, maybe 5 years + 2 days, I have filed and paid all my taxes since 2008 (greencard holder since 2005 but never had any income before 2008)
Here is my question, n400 instructions form states that I need to send IRS tax return transcripts for last 5 years if I have taken any trips that lasted 6 months or more since becoming a LPR. I am understanding this correctly? Even though I never been out of US since 2008 february and filed/paid all my taxes, should I still send copy of transcripts for last 5 years? well, I havent filed for 2012 though.

If you have taken any trip outside the United States that lasted 6 months or more since becoming a Lawful Permanent
Resident, send evidence that you (and your family) continued to live, work and/or keep ties to the United States, such as:

An IRS tax return “transcript” or an IRS-certified tax return listing tax information for the last 5 years

Simply include your tax transcrpts from 2008 to 2011 and a copy of your 2012 W2 if u wont file 2012 tax before you submit your N400.

Bring the tax returns/transcripts to the interview, don't send them with the application. Since your last long trip ended more than 5 years ago, they probably won't ask for the tax returns.

You don't need to file taxes for 2012 yet ... but your interview probably will be after the IRS filing deadline in April, so you should file your 2012 taxes before the interview.

True. You won't need to add in your N400 package. At the interview it may just come up as question from the officer like in my case.
All the same, I was prepared to show her every tax return since 2008.

Good luck to the OP.

Thank you guys,
my longest trip ended on Feb 10, 2008 and never been outside of US since then, today is 2/11, should I wait few more days just to be safe or can I mail N400 package today?

File it now if you want. You could have filed sooner. Now that it is a full 5 years after your last long trip, there is no more benefit to waiting longer.

I have one more question, I also want to change my first and last name but haven't decided about last name, can I answer Part 1 Q Yes and leave options blank then fill up during interview or is it better to wait few more days, decide for a name then send it to them?
