N400, Part 6 - Silly question

This may sound silly, but I just want to take your opinion. When filling part 6 - Residence and Employment history, the date format in N400 form is mm/dd/yyyy where as instructions show mm/yyyy. Which one to use?

Second, I was unemployed for 11 months during last five years and I was not under any unemployment benefits, just lived on my savings. Do I need to list this time period too?

Thanks

You just have to mention the employment dates. For the period you did not work don't mention anything.

For employment if you remember exact date you started and ended, write dates otherwise write month and year.

Employment was easy for me (I've worked at the same place for 7 years).

Travel wasn't. Getting even approximate dates beyond 5 years was difficult (we're Canadians and we used to live driving distance from the border).

So, in the "trips" section, where it says "if you need more space, attach an additional sheet", we just wrote "see attached sheet" and we wrote *all* of our travel information in a form that made sense given the detail that we had. That way, the entries that had less detail didn't stand out from the entries where we had a lot of detail.

It worked for both of us (we are both USCs now).

Use the format shown on the application form if possible. Sometimes when you don't know the exact date you can get away with the mm/yyyy format, but generally try to be as precise as possible.
