Hi,
I sent my application to VSC by USPS Express Mail on May 19th, 2007 and it reached VSC on May 21st, 2007. I sent a cashiers check to cover the application fees. I just went to the bank to find that the check has still not been encashed. It's been 12 days now. I am extremely worried, Is it unusual to take this long? Can I call any phone number to find out about my application by my name? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It does take time (nothing to worry about), just wait it out... see my timeline below for details.

SriniB,
Thanks for your response. I was really concerned. Hopefully, I should get something by next week.

It usually takes 2 weeks after mailing. My husband sent I-130 for his brother, 2 weeks passed, still no NOA too.

gg11,
Thanks for your response. I am a little relieved by responses from you and SriniB. Most of the cases on this forum show that the checks are encashed within a week itself. Hence the fear whether something went wrong.

While the USCIS strives to open the incoming correspondence and assign the Priority Date (PD) on the day it is being delivered because it involves fairness and equal treatment of all applications, I do not think there is a regulation specifying how quickly the USCIS will cash a check (after all the Priority Date is a significant date in the Naturalization process).

As usual, I am no lawyer and this is just common sense, this is not legal advice.

I have the same situation like you. My application reached on May, 21, 2007. I used LIN#... from the front of the cashed check and it says that they mail to me a notice on May, 21th, but I still didn't received anything.

Let me know when you received yours. By the way, are you applying based on marriage or regular?

Thanks,

I will definitely update you once I receive mine. And, please let me know when you receive yours. Also, I am applying in regular 5 years category.

I thought that the first thing USCIS does is to get the checks encashed. Only then, your case details are entered in the system. Your reply does give me hope that there is nothing wrong with my application. Thanks.

Give it 10-15 Business days...

For some it takes a little longer...

You should start worrying after 1 month of check not being cashed.

Thanks to all for their responses. It's been 12 business days today and the check has not been cashed yet. I guess the only thing I can do is wait patiently, however difficult it is.

We finally received our NOA after 3.5 weeks. Also, two days later we got our FP notices for both myself and spouse. Thanks to everyone for their inputs.
