N400-How to count the trip days out of States ?

I had a lot of business trips during the past five years. I found out that the N400 form requires to fill in the days out of US for every trips. I am quite confused about the day that I left US and the day that I came back whether I should count as the days that I were out of US.

Assume I left US on April 1st at 6pm and flew to Australia. I came back on April 10 at 3 pm. How many total days were I out of US ? Should I fill in 8, 9 or 10 days?

Hope someone knows about it and let me know. Thanks in advance

I was reading the adjudicators handbook the other day, and it clearly says you get credit for partial days (i.e. no need to count the day you leave and the day you return).

Hope that helps.

I appreciate boatbod for your quick response and the useful link. That really helps a lot!! I kept searching and searching the answer but couldn't find anything until I saw yr reply. I copy and paste the relevant info so that someone who needs this may find it useful. "When you count, give the applicant credit for each day in the United States, including full credit for the day the applicant left the United States and the day the applicant returned to the United States. "
