N400 documets

Hi all,

I’m sorry if this sounds like a basic question, but this forum was incredibly helpful during my green card process, and I really rely on your guidance.

I just became eligible for naturalization. My situation is very straightforward—my marital status hasn’t changed since I got my green card.

I’d like to confirm:
Do I only need to submit Form N-400, a copy of my green card, and pay the filing fee?
It feels a bit strange that it requires so few documents, especially considering how many I needed for my green card application!

Also, during the past 5 years, I’ve taken a few short trips to Italy and Spain, but I never stayed longer than a couple of weeks at a time.
Do those trips affect my eligibility or mean I need to wait longer?

Thanks so much for your help!

I suggest filing online, as it will tailor the form to your responses and ask you to upload anything necessary. ( I seem to recall I had to upload a copy of my marriage certificate (also no change since I got my green card), but it was some years ago and i can’t be 100% sure.) The length of your trips out won’t be a problem (it only makes a difference if it’s longer than a 6-month absence), but have the dates ready as it will ask you to input the dates and destinations on the form.

Hi Susie, thanks! That was actually very helpful — I didn’t know I could apply online. I have kids, and the system asked me to upload evidence of support, which is a bit confusing. It seems more like something for someone who is separated. Do you know what kind of evidence they’re looking for?

Hmm, that’s a bit odd. Yes, it’s usually for when the kids are not living with you. I wasn’t asked that when I did it so not sure. if it won’t let you continue without uploading something (some of the upload sections were optional from what I’d recall) it might be a glitch in how the system works -I’d just upload a note saying something like the children live with you, and maybe if you have something like a school or doctors document that shows them at the same address as you, or alternatively the part of your tax return that lists them as dependents.

I can skip it if I want, but then a warning message shows up. I'm not sure if it's automatic or not. So, if I’m able to continue, does that mean it’s okay to skip it?
BTW thanks you very much.i really appreciate your help!

Hi - yes, that’s ok to skip, I do remember now getting those warning messages when I skipped something that didn’t seem required for my situation.
