I've searched through most of the threads here and found 2 that is somewhat applicable to my situation. Unfortunately, because I don't have 15 posts or more, I can't link my thread to them. Sorry.
Here's my situation. I'm using a fake name very similar to my name:
I have no middle name On my green card my name is spelled Su Doe. However, ever since 10 years old (my age when I came to the States) I've always used the name Sue Doe. Sue Doe is what's on my Social Security (I think my family's case worker who did our SS and GC messed up my name when she did it then; hence, the Su/Sue discrepancy). Sue Doe is also the name on my Driver's License, school transcripts, bank, credit cards, work, .. basically, anything that required my name I've used Sue Doe.
About 5 years ago I applied for a Reentry Permit for a trip to Europe. I was inquired about the name difference, I told them, they issued my re-entry permit with the name Su Doe on it, however, they have also listed the name Sue as an "alias". (I have to admit this did make me feel a little Jennifer Garnerish" lol).
A. On my N400 I've done this on the request name change:
1. Correct my name from Su to Sue
2. Added a middle name: Mary
3. Kept my last name
All other questions I answer accordingly.
B.Here is what I plan on doing:
1. Keep my first name (assuming that Su gets changed to Sue)
2. Use my middle name as my everyday name just like how some people refer to be call by their middle name and not their first.
C. Here's what I know so far from reading various threads on this site. Please correct/help if I'm misunderstanding something:
1. According to the Correction On How Name Is Spell thread (I can't link because the site won't let me), correcting my name from Su to Sue is still a name change so I will have to fix it with the DMV, SS, etc... However, being that my name is already listed as Sue on all aforementioned documents I can skip this process. Am I understanding this correct?
2. My oath ceremony may be subject to delay because it needs to be done in a court so a judge can legalized my new name. Is this right?
Here is where I am a little confused. This is in regard to B2 as I've outlined above. Since I want to use my middle name "Mary" as my everyday name. Will I have to:
1. Change all my documents (SS, DMV, bank info, school info, etc..) that already has "Sue" to "Mary"?
2. What name (Sue/Mary) should I sign my paper during my interview so that I can use "Mary" when I apply for my passport?
I know this is a lot, and can be confusing, so I'd appreciate any input. Also, I have my interview on June 17th Should I just ask my IO then? Thanks again.
