I made mine out to "U.S. Department of Homeland Security", for 400 $. It did get cashed.

its all the same. Anything from that list will work. I made mine out to USCIS.

If I remember correctly the check should be made to: Department of Homeland Security. And like everybody said, amount is $400

Fees are accepted in the form of money order, personal check or cashiers check only. Checks should be made payable to Department of Homeland Security or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

also if i am not wrong ins has nothing to do with ur n400 application coz it is called uscis now,not ins.

I wrote the check to USCIS and after turning in the application, I realized that it should be Departmrnt of Homeland Security. I anticipated the check to come back but surprisingly it did not. I did not face any problem subsequently either.
