N400 approved - No oath

I had the N400 interview today at Newark. The officer told me the petition was approved and told me to wait for Oath. Then later on told me they can't swear me in today. He said I will be called for oath in a month. Is this normal? They were running very late. I had a 1 PM interview time but the interview took place at 4:15. I was hoping to take the oath today itself. If anyone had this happen to them, how long was the wait for oath appointment? Do they send any notification prior to oath saying the petition was approved? Thanks.

You were almost very lucky. Most others have to wait 4-6 weeks, some longer. So 'a month' is not too bad ...

Look forward to a day you will remember ! Alex

Did they give any reason as to why there was no oath. Newark, however late it may be used to give oath the same day.

Do they give the naturalization certificate prior to the oath? I wasn't given it. Do they send a notice saying the petition was approved, prior to sending notice for oath ceremony? Thanks.

You'll not get a certificate prior to the Oath ceremony. Secondly, N-652 Naturalization Interview Results provided to the folks that are interviewed states whether or not, they have passed the interview and recommended for citizenship.

I still haven't heard from them 2 weeks after interview. What has been the experience of others awaiting oath ceremony in Newark? Thanks.

It has been 6 weeks since my interview. Called the INS National number today, after not getting response to my message left with Newark office yesterday. Spoke to a rep after 20 minute wait. She said, I was not approved for Citizienship just because I got N652 which says "Congratulations. Your have been recommended for approval…". I was merely recommended for approval. And then says they are currently handling cases like mine with application receipt date of November 1st, 2005. My receipt date is a few days later. She says I should hear from them in a month regarding a final approval of my application. She also says they have 120 days to get back to me. I mentioned the fact that the interviewing officer told me clearly that I was approved and I was in fact given the form for oath ceremony and told to wait for oath same day, before being told it wasn't going to happen that day. She got testy. So I said thanks and ended the conversation. May be I should leave these folks alone and wait.

Dear VP4, I am in a similar situation - haa my interview on Oct 17, 2007 and was told that application is approved but have to wait for the oath. Was there any resolution to your case, how long did it take?
