Yes, you can leave the country, but you have to come back for fingerprint appointment and interview appointment. Fingerprint appointment will be scheduled within one/two months after you submitted your N400. Make sure not to stay too long outside USA.

Make sure to record your travel dates because you will probably be asked by the Interview officer when you go for the interview. Make sure that your passport is stamped with entry dates of any port in any country you visit and exit dates (from any country) and entry date at any US entry of point.
 
Many countries don't stamp their own passports when entering/exiting (all EU countries, for example), so that's not a given. However, keep the dates because you will probably have to upgrade the N-400 at the interview.
