N-470

Hello,

My wife had to go to India and stay there for a year due to some unforeseen family problems. She is a greencarder. She frequently travels between India and the US. In the meantime, I applied for my Citizenship and obtained it 4 months ago.

Keeping in mind about my US Citizenship, on 05/2007, I applied for N-470 on her behalf, an application to preserve her permanent residency though she took the re-entry permit which is valid until 06/2008. The INS officials, when enquired, do not provide any information and pointing fingers to talk to different departments. I spoke to couple of attorneys and they mentioned that the N-470 can be applied for professionals who should work for an American based company but the location may be anywhere on the globe and also there are other considerations based on valid reasons, hence the INS can approve it.

I am in a dilemma since I haven't received any response from any quarters.

Can someone please let me know how this works and what is the right approach?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Samrit
