What is the definition of American Firms or Corporation in order to be qualified for N-470 application?

According to Wiki definition, a company's headquarter is located in the United States. Is this suitable for N-470 application. I really want to know this. My company's headquarter is located in New York City, NY, but it is a subsidiary of a Germany firm. Can I consider my employer company as American Firm for N-470???

No, a firm that is owned 51% or more by a American Firm/Company/Corporation is considered a American Firm/Company/Corporation, if its a German subsidiary having a HQ housed in US it is not a American firm.

There is no simple, single definition. A subsidiary of a foreign firm can qualify, if the subsidiary is traded exclusively on a US stock exchange. There are also other criteria, some of which are a bit vague.

See http://www.visalaw.com/print/10feb306.html (scroll down to the last half of the page).

Ultimately, you won't really know if your company meets the definition until you actually apply (or others have applied in the recent past and been rejected or approved).
