N-400 with old green card

I have a green card that was issued in 1982 with no expiry date. Am I required to get the new card before I apply for Citizenship or can I apply with the old card ? Thanks

I don't think you would be required at this time. I would send the application with the photocopy of the green card you have now, and most likely everything will be fine.

My 2 cents

It took me a while to find something relevant, and although old, it is probably still relevant:

"Q. Do I need to renew my Green Card if it was issued between 1979 and 1988 and does not have an expiration date?

A. No. Green Cards issued between 1979 and 1988 do not have expiration dates and do not need to be renewed at this time. INS will develop an orderly plan for replacing these cards at a future time. (Note: If you obtained your Green Card before your 14th birthday and are now over 14, and your Green Card does not have an expiration date on it, you will still need to get a new card. You will need to go to your local INS District or Sub-Office-not an Application Support Center-and File a Form I-90, "Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card." However, you will not need to pay the $130 application fee. You will only need to pay the $50 fingerprinting fee.)"

hitechguy,
If possible, use your existing threads to ask questions on N-400 filing, rather than new threads.
CrossHairs, My reason for starting new threads was that the questions pertained to different topics/aspects of the N-400. Later if someone else had a question regarding say "Self Employment" or "Old green card" and they did a search on the forum by typing in these keywords, they would most likely immediately find these threads, since the default search option on most forums is to search the threads ( titles ) and not the posts within the threads (unless they use advanced search - which most people dont use). Just my take on this - but thanks for your input.

No problem. By the way, I think the search (regular search) does search the posts, and not just the title. Maybe I am mistaken. In anycase, yes if you think it merits a separate one, by all means go ahead.

rwsh (or rswh, or whatever the name is) was in a similar situation. He might know (he recently took the oath)
