Hello everyone.

The questions i am about to ask ,i have already searched them on this forum. I think i have my answer by it never hurts to ask again.

Part 10 of the form (general questions), its asking me
question 1

"Since becoming a Lawful Permanent Resident, have you ever failed to file a required federal state or local tax return? yes or no "

question 2

"Do you owe any Federal, state or local taxes that are overdue? yes or no"

Now, my problem is that i didn't file my 2007 tax return because i was to lazy and i got really busy with my school. Also, it was the first time I was ever suppose to file out my taxes. I didn't have a clue what to do. Now, on the tax form I believe I have to say yes to both since i didn't file it. Am i wrong?
and when or if i say yes, what proof do i give with the form?

if you guys can please help me out, that would be great.

thanks again

How much did you make in2007? Only income above certain levels is required
to file a tax return (don't remmeber exact figure but for example, $6000 for individual status)?

You can still file 2007 tax return NOW. Better later than never.
If you don't owe too much taxes, IRS will not bother you because you
are late. In fact, most likely you may still get some tax refund if your income in 2007
was W-2 income with employer withholding your federal incoem tax for you.

Of course, if you do file your 2007 tax return now before you file your N-400,
how do you answwer that first question? I don't know. By that time, you
will have filed your tax return it is just late

If you're a young adult and a full-time student, chances are you haven't earned enough (approx. $8000/yr) to be required to file a Federal return. Did you earn more than that?

However, your state return (if your state has a state income tax) may have a lower threshold than that. Nine states have no state income tax on work-related income: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, Wyoming, New Hampshire and Tennessee (however, the last two have a tax on interest and dividends).

Figure out if you need to file, and if you owe anything (perhaps you are supposed to get a refund and don't owe anything). Use any of the popular tax software like TurboTax, Tax Cut, or TaxACT. If you are required to file, file the returns and pay any overdue amounts before applying for the N-400.

OK, got that down.
Another problem. I had a green card for over 12 years. Will this be a problem if i have an expired permanent residence card? or it should go threw ok? Will i need to renew my green card?
After i find out the answer for this, i will go about my application for the citizenship

Your card expire but your PR status doe snot expire. You need an unexpired card for travel, work elignility, and other purpsoe including carrying it as required by law.

You need to renew your GC. There is nothing to lose but filing fee

ok so with out the renewal, applying for a citizenship is useless?

Go ahead to do both. You need to send copies of your GC and present your GC during the interview. There does not seem to be a requirement the GC has
to be unexpired.

ok, i am looked just about every place I can at uscis but i can not find anything that says that i need to have an unexpired card. If i can use a expired card, its going to save me 400$

According to A Guide to Natuzalization (page 13) you must renew your card before applying for citizenship:
24. If my Permanent Resident Card expires while I am applying for naturalization, do I still need to apply for a new card?

If you apply for naturalization less than 6 months before the expiration date on your Permanent Resident Card, or don’t apply for naturalization until your card has already expired, you must renew your card.

Cheers.
