N-400 Signature questions

As for the signatures are concerned, I think the only signature required is on Page 10 of N-400. Is there any other place where signature is required?

I think, the following comes to my mind. Please advice:

1). If there is any additional sheet of paper attached, write your A# on the top, I think, it make sense to sign in the bottom? What is the common practice?
2). Write your A# and name lightly in pencil on the back side of the picture.
3). Write your A# next to your name on the check. Also write your A# on the back of the check above the endorsement line.

Any suggestions or corrections, welcome.

Everything is ok. Remember to write "Attachment to form N-400" at the Top with your complete Name and A# on any additional sheets included with the application. Everything else is correct.

Best of luck!

How do we sign the N-400 application?

For the N-400, should we sign our name like we do day-to-day for credit card receipts etc. (the usual "scrawl" signature)
or should we sign the N-400 application in FULL NAME (cursive writing of the full name - this is not how we usually sign)

Please clarify this.

One other question - do we need to send any COVER LETTER for the simple N-400 application?

Sign very legibly like the application says. It should not be how you sign regularly, it should be in cursive but VERY legible. If it is not legible it will be returned. The cover letter should be include to let them know under what criteria you are applying and any additional documents that you are including with the application in addition to the check for $400, the 10-page N-400 application itself, and the two passport pictures.

You don't need to include a cover letter. I did though because I supplied an explanation for answering yes to Q: 15, 16 and 17 for having been pulled over by a State Trooper, for answering Yes to the Affiliations questions explaning my membership to various medical, scientific and other professional organizations and finally, providing a copy of service registration letter.

I hope this helps!

Jedi,
There was a fender bender collision once where someone hit my car (while I was stopped!) from behind. Very minor speed and it was a very minor collision.

I called the cops just to get a "collision report" for insurance purposes. The cops noted I was stopped and the other person was at fault. They gave a collision report and my insurance covered the minor fender bender fully.

I was not "stopped by a cop" or anything, I just called them to confirm I did not cause the accident and they gave a collision report so insurance can get it from them if needed. There was *no* citation.

These things I hope dont need to be reported. Am I correct?

Were you in violation of something? Like for me I was in violation of breaking the freeway speed limit, so when the state trooper pulled me over I was cited, and charged with speeding. My case is a bit different from yours as you were not at fault and you were not in violation of something lega. So you may not need to report it as in my case. This is also on my DMV record and a court record which I was able to acquire as paid. Unless you were found to be at fault by the police and insurance, I'm sure you don't need to report it. I hope this helps.

No, I was not in violation and it was a not-at-fault fender bender caused by the other person. I too believe I dont need to report it.

Thanks, yes it is always helpful to hear from posters like yourself. Appreciate the time and effort.

BTW - it is funny they ask us to do a cursive writing of our full name as a signature as opposed to our own unique scrawl signature. I wonder why!? Anyone can write my name in cursive, but (hopefully) for the most part only I can sign my "scrawl signature" :)
The scrawl is more 'authentic' IMO :)

But thanks for the clarification, I'll put a legible full cursively written signature on the N-400.

Sample copy of your cover letter to N-400

Can you supply a sample copy of your cover letter? I am in the same situation as yours. I was pulled by a State trooper and was issued a minor traffic ticket for speeding and I paid in full.

As far as signature on the N-400 is concerned sign your full name.

For example if your full name is: John Matthew Smith your signature should be in cursive letters as John Mattew Smith NOT JM Smith.

Sign your usual signature on your check. Put your A # on both the Memo line in front of the check and on the back of the check.

With a pencil write your Name and A# lightly on the back of the two photos.
