I became perm resident in july 2002. Until DEC 2004 I lived in Michigan where I had two residences. I was living with a friend at his place while my family was staying at a different place which leased under my name. I was getting all my mails at my family's home except for the one's received from INS. My address listed with INS was my friend's. Do I need to mention both addresses on N-400 or not. Appreciate your response.

If you feel that you need to tell them this information in order to be truthful on the application, attach a sheet to your application explaining the situation.

I had all sorts of attached sheets on my application (my "trips" section, for example, only said "see attached sheet")

As far as I know by definition every person can maintain only one residence at any given time, and this residence is is the place you call home. If a person for example spends weekdays at one place and weekends at another place, this person has only one residence, which is either the weekdays place or the weekend place.

In my opinion, the key factors to take into consideration are truthfulness and consistency. As Flydog writes, you can attach a sheet to explain.

This is not legal advice, just common sense.

The simplest and least problematic approach is to list whichever address you used for your drivers license. After all, that is supposed to be your "residence" address...
