I just submitted my N-400 at Vermont center. Currently I am unemployed and I consider going back to my origin country to work. Is there any rule on this? It seems that I cannot do so. Please help.

usc2008,
I suggest you don't take this route.
If I were you, I will apply for jobs in US even if it means only get a part-time (not what you expect) at least to support you and your family financially. If you take jobs abroad and you move your family as well, you will be considered as abandoning your permanent residence. Hence, you will be at great risk of denial on your N400 application.

Chitown08, thanks a lot for your suggestion. I agree with you, after all these years of waiting, I don't want to put my citizen petition in jeopardy like this. By the way, it seems that in your processing center it only takes 6 months? I sent my application to Vermont, but my local office is Newark, I am not sure how that is going to work...Vermont will dispatch my case to Newark?

I think it is a better route. Better to hold on to getting a regular whatever job than losing the continuous residence requirement. It is not a requirement to be employed to apply or acquire citizenship.

On this thread, this person was rejected for coming back and forth to the US
