Hi Guys,

USCIS received my N-400 on Oct 3rd, 2006... My FP and test was done on first week of November. I had applied from MD, USA. The processing time is now for Dec 2006. I have not reveived any letter for interview or oath. I am worried and not sure how long will this go on. I called them on May 2007, they sent me a letter stating that it is under process.

Please help what is going on?

Thanks for any information.

Schedule a infopass meeting and find out what is going on in person.

Hopefully, you are not stuck in Name check blackhole.

Background Checks

I was there in immigration office today: they gave me a sheet that said your case is still pending a variety of backgroung checks with other government agencies.

What and how long they checks will be? Anyone please!

Thanks a lot dude. I have my fingers crossed... All the best to everyone who is getting delayed like me...

Confused even more

I talked with couple of lawyers... One said that it is a regular process while the other lawyer said that background checking should have been done after the interview and not before the interview, so meet the congressman. I am even more confused now. I am sure lots are going through this... as I read somewhere that around 49% of the citizenship cases are pending and almost twice number of people have filed this year than last year...

Cool. You've got it! Thanks for the links. It would look like you're unfortunately stuck on the infamous name check. This unfortunately takes an indefinite amount of time and is not predictable at all. What the lawyer told you is old news. It used to be the case that the interview was scheduled before the name check was done, then you could sue the government after 120 days past your interview to speed up the name check. Quite a few people got their naturalization "unstuck" that way. However, USCIS changed the process and stopped scheduling interviews until the name check is clear so then people don't have the option to sue. Some people are still bugging politicians to get their cases moved from the name check quagmire. I am not an expert but there are plenty of posts explaining what people have done.

Good luck and I hope you get your interview letter soon.
