Hi All,
My green card lists “No Name Given” as the first name and my full name as the last name, because my original passport had the entire name in the given name field and left the surname field blank.
I want to avoid having “No Name Given” appear on my naturalization certificate. If I update my Indian passport to reflect a proper split (first name and surname), can I use that for the N-400, or would I still need to request a legal name change on the form?
As a background I came on an L1 visa and that had First Name as FNU, so all my US Documents such as SSN and Driver’s license come with FNU as the first name.
Since I am not technically changing my name, and just making a correction do I still need to check Yes for the Legal Name Change option, or will the immigration officer understand its just a name split correction which I am done and not a judicial name change. Please advise on the route I should follow, and whether or not correcting my passport to splitting my first and last name would work as proof of the correct name. Thank you!
