Hello everybody,

Here is my time line for N-400:
PD 6/03
FP 8/03

haven't heard anything since then. Current processing time for NYC is Nov 03. My receipt says approximate processing time is 540 days. I am planning to do an inquiry with 26 Federal Plaza ( local UCIS office ). Does anyone have any prior experience dealing with 26 Federal Plaza, NY, regarding N-400 inquiry? Do you have any suggestion as to which day of the week or what time of the day I should go there ( since it is always crowded )?. Any advise/suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Do you know for certain that your case is being handled at Federal Plaza? I'm not sure about the red tape there, but another option would be to also inquire at the Garden City office...

No, I am not sure where to go for this, 26 Federal Plaza or Garden City? But, I will start with 26 Federal Plaza. Please help me with this if anyone have any prior experience. Thanks

I don't have first-hand experience. The obvious suggestion, which you probably tried, is to call customer service. It's not entirely frivolous, since the person you talk to may be able to file some sort of status enquiry for you. It's worth a try. Federal Plaza seems to be so much of a zoo. There're people who start queuing overnight, so I hear. I don't know if there's a limit to the number of people let in. If there is such a limit, you may be in trouble unless you're willing to get there in the wee hours of the morning.

Good luck!

Exp with 26 Federal Plaza, NYC

Yesterday I went to 26 Federal Plaza, NYC, to inquire about my pending N-400. I went there around 11:30. There was no line in front of the building ( I was shocked ), so I straight went to the 3rd Fl, information section. There I was given a computer generated number, and a pink slip. The pink slip contains basic info: A #, DOB, Current address, if address was changed since I applied etc. I met with an information officer when my number was called, and handed out the filled pink form to the officer. She checked the computer, and said that my file was still in Vermont. The officer also gave me a letter which stated:

Dear applicant:
We are in receipt of your inquiry on May 27, 2004 concerning the status of your Application for Naturalization, file with Vermont office.
Unfortunately, your application is still with the Service Center in Vermont. Would you please contact the office on the status of the application.

Citizenship and Immigration Service

We hope the information provided is helpful. Thank you in advance for your cooperation
and patience in this matter.

I was done in 30 min. The officer also told me that she will send a copy of the letter ( she made 3,4 copies ) to VSC, and advised me to write or contact with VSC after 2 months if I don’t get any response from them. 2 months? Is this a standard waiting period for UCIS every inquiry we make with them? I was told to wait 2 months also when I inquired about my case over the phone. I really don’t understand how this UCIS functions. Why does it take 60 days for them to find out why my file was sitting there after 11 months since I had submitted the application. Why can’t they reply in a week or two? How hard it is to do so? I am frustrated, and running out of patience.

Wow, lucky you! This is so unlike what I heard about from a friend (who started queuing around midnight) and what was written in a recent article in the New York Times (again, people queuing overnight and a woman who worked for JP Morgan had a courier queuing for her so she was able to show up around 8). Maybe naturalization cases are handled differently. In any case good luck to you.

Lecing,
I don't consider myself to be lucky. If I was lucky, I didn't have to go there in the first place, and probably I would have done with my interview by now or atleast I should have my interview letter in my hand. Anyway it was a pleasant exp. with 26 Federal Plaza which I didn't expect. Indeed knowing the fact that one has to line up 3/4 AM in the morning, I postponed my trip several days before going there on last Thursday. I will keep you guys posted if there is any changes to my status.

Thanks

Application Type: N400 online Current Status

Hi everyone, glad I found a forum that talks about the naturalization process.
I applied for my naturalization last Aug. 2003

Since then I’ve had my fingerprints done but the online status never changed.
I called BCIS 800 number gave them my Receipt Number, they said that my case was in NY city and that they were processing cases received in Sep. 2003. They couldn’t provide me with any more information. They asked me if I would like them to request a query about the case, I said yes but haven’t received anything so far it has been over a month now.

Hey M1S

I applied in March 2003 and only got my interview in May 2003 (15 months after applying)...so don't worry, you're still within the normal timeline for response...

If it makes you feel any better mentally (I know I felt like I was getting something accomplished), go ahead and prep yourself by getting your 1722's in order, finding out the status of your FBI FP/Record checks, etc.

The interviewer may not ask you for all these things, but it's good to go to the interview with everything in hand...

Good luck!
