N-400 help from lawyer?

My Question is regarding my boyfriend applying for citizenship, Do you reccomend doing it yourself? We are not sure wheather to or not as we have had a couple of bad experiences with lawyers just wanting money, but not really helping.
What do you think?

The N-400 is very simple and anybody can do it without a lawyer. Unless your boyfriend has special "issues", like, for example, arrests, convictions, etc., where he may need legal advice, he should be able to do it easily by himself.
 
simple application

i agree...just have him read the application ..it should be easy a lawyer will cost you over $1200 for something you can do your self, i.e., write your name, answer questions about your spouse, kids, job etc
 
Thanks, he has no convictions or anything like that.
only that he was born with a different last name will this cause problems?

You don't need a lawyer for this. Just include it in the "other names used" section.

No, but maybe, I'm not sure about this, later he may have to show how his name was changed...
