There is a question on N-400 in part 10. A. 5. which states that

5. Do you owe any Federal, state or local taxes that are overdue?

I am not sure what exactly overdue means? For the year 2005 tax, I owe around $1000 to IRS but I am paying it in 4 installments. I paid the first installment and last installment will be paid by year Jan 2007. I have just applied for N-400. How does it affect the interview outcome if the interview takes place before Jan 2007 which I hope will happen before that date?

I think I would like to know what exactly overdue mean? and does my case falls under overdue category?

Thanks a lot guys.

Overdue means that you did not pay a tax at the time it was due. If you have a payment arrangement with IRS to pay your 2005 taxes in installments then your taxes are not overdue; and as long as you pay each installment amount in full by the date each is due you will continue to not have overdue taxes.

Hope that helps.

If I were you I would pay that remaining $750 ( not a big amount anyway) before interview and get a transcript from IRS indicating your a/c is clear and take it to interview. Paying off $750 now is well worth than answering questions in interview which may raise suspicions.
