N-400 fee: Personal check or Cashiers check

How do we pay the fee - Personal check or cashiers check.
Do we need to send two checks (one for $330 and another for $70) or just one check ($400)?

Checks must be payable to "Department of Homeland Security".

If it is cashier's check, how do you know the check is cleared?

For those who file with their spouse, how do you pay the fee (seperate check, same envelope)?
