N-400 Citizenship Speeding ticket and modified oath - please help
Hi there,
I have been a LPR for 4 years now after marrying a US citizen. I applied for citizenship in March 07 and I have a question regarding my application.
When my wife and I filled out the application we didn't mention the speeding ticket that I received a year ago. The ticket wasn't drug or alcohol related, and after reading through the USCIS citizenship guide we found that on page 25 of the guide is states the following "Note that unless a traffic incident was alcohol or drug related, you do not need to submit documentation for traffic fines and incidents that did not involve an actual arrest if the only penalty as a fine of less than $500 and/or points on your driver’s license." After reading this we decided not to include it in the application since the fine was well under 500 dollars.
However, recently I received a letter telling me that my scheluded interview had been cancelled due to unforseen reasons and that a new interview will be scheduled. I was a little worried about this so I called the national customer service number and they told me that this happens all the time and not to worry about it. Now I'm not sure what made me ask, but I checked with the lady on the telephone about my speeding ticket, and she told me that I should have included it in my application.
I am now worried that when I tell the immigration officer at the interview about the speeding ticket, that they will deny my application based on this speeding ticket. Does anyone have any experience with this type of situation? please let me know.
I am also a little worried because I have requested to take the modified oath (due to religious reasons), and I worry that they use the speeding ticket as a way out of letting me take the modified oath.
Please help
Paul
Thanks
