I have an employer sponsored GC which I got 5 years ago. I was preparing my N-400 application and realized that the only docs. I need to submit with the application form are.

1. 2 photos
2. check (application + FP fee)
3. Copy of my GC
4. N-400 application

The simplicity in terms of the required docs. concerns me :)
Am i missing something. Is a G-28 (Biographic form) not required.

thanks for your help

I am in the same boat

chiru

I am in the same boat as yours, in the process of filling out application etc. I found the process to be very simple. As per their documentation, looks like that is all we need to send.

Another related question:
I am sending two applications, one for myself and another for my wife. Can we send both these applications in one envelope or they need to be sent separately ? I know the checks should be separate but not clear whether we can send in one envelope.

Thanks in advance

Whatever you have mentioned is fine to submit with this application.
make sure you submit copy of both sides of your GC and photos as per new requirement. That's it and than sit tight :) :)

can I send applications together or send separately

Can any one answer my question ?

I am filing the N-400 applications both for my wife and myself. Both are 5 year GC based. Should I send the applications separately or club them in one envelope ? If it is allowed, I want to send them together and hoping that both get processed at the same time.

Thanks, more dumb and silly questions

Sorry for these silly questions, but the immigration dept could be very picky from my past experiences.

1. Should there be a cover letter for each application ?
2. Should the photos be in an envelope or just attach with application ?
3. Should the documents be on top of the application or bottom ?
4. Should the cheque and photos be attached at the front or the back ?
5. The cheque should be payable to "dept of homeland security" is that correct ? There is confusion, somewhere it mentioned "immig and naturalization".

Thanks.

1. No cover letter is needed. 2. Use a clip to attach the photos. Do not staple to the form. 3. Documents should be attached at the bottom. The top page should always be the N400. 4. Check should be attached after the form along with documents. The order of the attached documents does not matter. 5. Department of Homeland Security.
All these are explained in the instructions/guide for N400.

Cover letter is not required, but it is highly recommended.

Photos should be placed in a small evelope so that it could not be damaged or lost. And that envelop should be attached with the application with clip. Never staple photos or any other documents with the form.

Check should be made out to : Department of Homeland Security

The application should be in the following order:

First, processing fee should ALWAYS be placed on the TOP. Second, the cover letter if you choose to attach a cover letter. Third, photos in a small envelop. Fourth, form-N-400. Fifth, all the supporting documents like copy of green card (back and forth); divorce decree if you were ever divorced before, and etc....etc depending on your specific situation.

If you are mailing more than one application (one for you and another one for your wife) then you can mail both of them in one envelop, but make sure separate them with a ruberband or paper clip so that 'mail people' in the USCIS can able to sort them out as separately, otherwise they might not bother to see that you have sent two separate applications in one envelop.

You should know that processing of each case varies. Just because she is your wife, or just because you are mailing both applications in one envelop, or just because you both have same situation, yet still it doesn't mean that the processing of two separate applications would be the same. Instead, it all depends 'case-by-case' basis, complexity or simplicity of a case, and mostly it depends on the assigned adjudication officer as some officers are lazier than others.

G-28 is not a biographic form as someone mistakenly said about it earlier. Instead, it is a form which needs to be submitted along with N-400 if you are being represented by an attorney. It means that you are being represented by an attorney.

Only those applicants who are filing N-400 based upon milliary basis, need to file Biographic form (G-325) along with their N-400.

Thank you very much JohnyCash and others too.

Before posting the application, I checked this thread one last time and I am glad I did it. I wrote a cover letter and arranged the documents in the right order so as not to give any excuse to INS folks to put it off :)

Thanks guys, you are doing a great job.
Now I wait.. I applied with texas service center and my district is tampa, fl. Any folks in this area and how much time it is taking currently in this area ?

Gaurav do a search 'Tampa' then you will get a thread

with Tampa timeline. Could you update your details there...It will help all of us to have a feel of the Tampa timeline. I am still due 6 months to apply for Citizenship.

Thanks

Hi Gaurav2005,
How much earlier to completing your 5 year term are you sending the application?? Many say we can send it 6 months before ??? Is it true?? Or do we need to send it 3 months earlier as they say in the website.

well, ofcourse you can send it 6 months before the 5 years, but you application most definitely will be denied! If you want to waste time and money do that. My friend, you waited 4 years and 6 months, can't you wait 3 more months?!! it's for your own sake, believe me.
Good Luck :)

A N-400 can ONLY be filed 90 days in advance. That means-4 yrs and 9 months after obtaining a green card whether green card was granted as a conditional or a permanent. The timeframe is 2 yrs and 9 months if N-400 would be filed based upon still being married to a USC thru whom a person obtained the green card.

If N-400 is filed prior to 90 days of being eligible of it then not only a person will loose money towards processing fee and documents preparation for N-400, but also a person would loose his/her energy, efforts and time in preparing and getting ready for interview for N-400. Becuase, their N-400 will definately be DENIED without a doubt. Plain and simple. No ifs, not buts, not could-should-would and other BS. Many cases have been reported wherein people were denied ONLY at the time of interview than at the time of accepting the application by USCIS for processing, just because they filed their N-400 even one day in advance. It was just a complete waste of time as some of these people even waited almost 2 yrs to have their interview on their N-400.

Stop paying attention to rumors.

I applied 4yrs 9months+1day from GC date

While calculating 90 days in advance, be careful to consider 31 days in the months. I dont know if they are picky but better be careful than sorry.

My checks are cleared in less than a week after I applied. I tried to read the application receipt # from the cleared check like someone suggested on this forum, but in vain. I guess I need to wait for the formal application receipt letter.
