N-400 and Travel

Hello everyone,

Just joined the group. Getting ready for another immigration process after 4 peaceful years.
I'll be eligible to apply for citizenship from next month. I have some questions and hope to
get some advice here.

I need to travel to India and stay there for 3-5 months. I would like to
send my N-400 and then go to India. Since it is taking around 5 months
for finger printing in my area (Raleigh, NC. Charlotte DO I think) I thought
it would be ok. If they send the FP notice early, I can come back and give
finger prints and go back again.

Is there any problem with this scenario?
Can I be outside US for that long after sending N-400?

I was out of US for 170 days in 2003 but I maintained my residence here.

Hi,
Well I guess as long as you come back within 6 months its ok(but check it with other guys as well)and just to let you know its taking app. 2 months for finger priniting in charlotte , As I applied in jul 04 and got finger printing done in sept 04, BTW you have to go to charlotte for the FP , as they no longer do it at Raleigh anywhere.
 
Have someone check your mail and inform you if you got FP letter. They can also send a request to postpone it if needed... In short ->Check your mails
