For example, Part 8: information about your marital history

Section F,

I was not married before, so I don’t need to fill out section F1 through F5,

Section F1 asks “prior spouse’s family name”, my question is:

Do I just leave it blank or have to fill in “N/A”?

Which answer is better? How do you guys handle this?

It seems that there are a lot of “N/A” marks for me.

Thanks,

I understand that from n-400 instructions that “ if a question does not apply to you, write N/A (meaning “Not Applicable”) in the space provided.

But I don’t think N/A will be the best answer.

Let me point out Part 8 section F3, “Date of Marriage (month/day/year)”, filling in “N/A” does not make sense, leaving it blank should be a right thing to do.

I would like your input on this.

IMO,

it does not matter. I personally would put "N/A" or "None" . Just dont put "None" if you dont have a middle name!!

Rahul Kumar,

Thank you for your input.

Putting “N/A” on an empty space, like ““prior spouse’s family name”, is OK, but for space like “Date of Marriage (month/day/year)”, N/A does not seem to be a good solution.

I would like your opinion.

If you try to maintain consistency, you should also put “N/A” on “middle name” space even though u don't have a middle name.

Do u agee?

I honestly would never put N/A for a name as it may be taken literally
If it were me I would just put N/A for prior spouse’s family name and date of marriage or leave the date of marriage blank.

If you are too paranoid, take a sheet of paper and mention that you were never married or married once etc etc. The ONLY time someone will review all this is @ your interview . You will be there also

I usually put N/A for middle name, even though if you really think about it, it is applicable to everyone. I think "None" is more correct, but they do take it literally, sometimes. In the papers we got back with I-485 approval letter, my daughter got a middle name - NMI. I figured it was "No Middle Initial". I have no idea where it came from.
So, it is better be safe than sorry.
