My Step-son Application

I am an American citizen, applying for my wife's and my step-son's (17) green cards, both Brazilian. When we sent the applications to USCIS we filled my step-son's petition as if he was Rio de Janeiro, as he was at that time, but 30 days later or so he was able to get a student VISA F-1 and arrived in the States.

He did everything he was supposed to do, paid the SEVIS fee, got into a school, stayed with a host family for one week and attended the course for 30 days. However, it became really expensive to keep paying one grand per month to learn English, which he already knows, also the school is 2 hours away from our home and transportation becomes a huge factor. We tried finding a high school closer from home, but they asked for a $7,000 fee upfront and that's out of question.

Well, here's my dilema, we've decided that he'll attend a public high school, he'll loose his Student Visa status and we need to filled for an Adjustment of Status ASAP, because very soon he'll be required to go to the American Consulate for his interview, but he's in the U.S. now.

Could someone please guide me through the appropriate steps I should take?

I really appreciate any feedback.

Cheers,
Marcelo
