My family and me landed in Canada on 23rd June and came back to USA next day. I received PR cards for me and my wife at the given address, which are in my possession now. Yesterday, I received letter from Citizenship and Immigration Canada stating that the Photograph and signature taken for my son does not meet the specs and I have been scheduled for an appointment to retake photograph in last week of July.

Is it possible that I can call them and explain that his sign has changed since last time he signed on the forms. (Two years back).
Can I request them that I will send the photographs by post? Will it help or it is in my interest to appear at the scheduled date and get new photographs.

I have no problem in going to Canada since I have my PR Card and my son’s passport is not marked as ‘Not Valid For Travel’. When I landed in Canada first time, the immigration officer has put up a stamp on my passport which reads as below:

Immigration Canada

<Date of Landing>
Sud Ontario South
0906 Expiration

Below this stamp, he has hand written ‘Permanent Resident’

He has circled following entries from my Landing Visa:
No of Entries = One
Category
Document Number

And as confirmed by Ginnu in this forum ‘if you don’t have any stamp on PP or Landing paper 'NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" you can enter Canada with out PR card till 31 December 2003.’

I think I should not have any problem in going back. Any suggestion, advise on this?

Also,
Also, can I go in my Car now?
Can I enter Canada from any place since I don’t have any Landing activities to be done at port of Entry?

Your advise, suggestions will help me in deciding my course of action.

Regards,

PR card appointment

Even I have similar kind of problem. They accepted my wife's photograph but not mine. THey asked me to come there for photograph. But due to H1 stamping problems, i couldn't go. I told them that I will have to reschedule. I dont understand what the problem is with those CIC guys. Maybe their brain is not filled with blood (but filled with urine).

Thing is, even though you dont see "NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" in your passport, it will be on the Landing Paper. They dont stamp that. On the background of the Landing Paper you can see that. You can enter anytime without any problems because you have PR card. But for your son, you have to take Travel Document from Canadian Embassy. For Travel Document, they suggest you apply 4 weeks before your travel date.

As far as signature goes, dont call them and confuse. Already they are confused people. After going there, have them take photograph and signature. If they ask about the signature, then explain them. Otherwise dont volunteer yourself to trouble. I hate those guys. They are "anpadgavar's". Did I get this word right???

MRP,

Thanks for this reply. However, why I have to show the landing paper since I am not going for 'Landing'. Does not the stamping on Passport should suffice as the document to be shown at the port of Entry?

Regards!

I was reading the “Applying for Travel Document (Permanent Residents abroad)” Guide. From the extract below, I concluded that we may not need Travel Document till 31st December 2003. Even if our Record Of Landing is not (IMM 1000), I believe, still it is ‘Record of Landing’

“Who should not apply for a Travel Document:

1) If you are the holder of a Permanent Resident Card
2) If you are the holder of a Record Of Landing (IMM 1000)
If you do not have a permanent resident card and you are the holder of an Immigrant Visa and Record of Landing (IMM 1000) issued by the Government of Canada, you should carry your original Record of Landing document with you whenever traveling abroad. The original Immigrant Visa and Record of Landing Document with which you first entered Canada, as a permanent resident is evidence that you were landed as an immigrant in Canada. You should always be prepared to present your original Record of Landing to representatives of a transportation company in order to demonstrate that you are entitled to reenter Canada as a permanent resident. Certified copies of the Record Of Landing are not acceptable evidence of your entitlement to re-enter Canada as a permanent resident.
As the holder of an original Record of Landing, you should not approach a visa office abroad to apply for a Travel Document for permanent residents in order to return to Canada. Should you apply for a Travel Document for permanent residents at a Canadian visa office abroad, your application and fees will be returned to you with a notice informing that until 31 December 2003 it is possible to travel back to Canada with your original Record of Landing and no other additional documentation is required. Holders of the Record of Landing Documents are expected to travel back to Canada with the original Record of Landing in their possession and they do not require any additional documentation to demonstrate that they are entitled to re-enter Canada as permanent residents.”

Any more opinions on this by the Gurus.
