My quest for an iEAD

Since my current EAD expires tomorrow and the renewal is nowhere in sight, I had taken an InfoPass to pray to the INS gods to give me an interim EAD.
My application is not yet 90 days old and I had been forewarned by fellow posters that the chances of me getting one are bleak.
The stubborn soul that I am, nothing lost in tryin!

So off I went to the INS centre in good ol' Baltimore...armed with all the tools including a letter from my employer threatening me with termination(I had requested one from him...just to make my case more persuasive) !!!
Was as early as the first bird...stood in the line outside the Fallon building...in the freezing cold...with folks of all nationalities on earth...from the Mexican couple coochicooing right behind me in 26 degrees temperature...to the Nigerian guy who seemed out of place in his business suit!
Anyways...after the usual metal detector..."Have you got any weapons on you?" stuff...I get into the hall and get a slip to go to the counter.
Yay!!!...I am the second person to be entertained today!!!!
So waking at 5:00 in the morning has its perks...I got to see the sun rise...first time since I left India six years ago!
As soon as my number pops up on the screen (which is about 10 seconds after I enter), I walk purposefully to the counter, with a nice smile on my face!

And I say a bright hello to MISS GODZILLA!!!

She takes my appt receipt, asks for my zip code (did I zip my pants today!!)...and asks me how she could be of help.
I try to be as pleasant and explain to her that my EAD is expiring tomorrow and havent received my renewal yet.
She asks me if its 90 days already since I applied...and I replied in the negative, punching as much regret as I could muster, into my tone.
"Well...in that case, I cannot do anything for you. You will have to wait until the 90 days are over."

"But ma'm...I understand that you have the authority to provide it special circumstances...I will lose my job, if I dont get an interim EAD today."

"Like I said...you will have to wait until its 90 days!"

I started thinking which actor was the best at histrionics..."Sanjeev Kumar!".
So I made a Sanjeev Kumar face (remember the movie Khilona?)... :(
"It would be tough for me if I lose my job! Ma'm here look at this letter from my employer"

"This is the third time I am saying to you...come back after 90 days are over!!!!"

Thank you MISS GODZILLA!!! So you don't like Sanjeev Kumar!!!?? Would Robert DeNiro do...with a frown on my face!!!? How about the specialist villain Ranjeet???
I thought you will be in a good and giving mood so early in the morning. Did you not have a good night's sleep or what???

Thus ended my todays quest for an iEAD.

The good news: I saved a few quarters since I did not have to pay for parking. It was way too early in the morning for the parking meters. I was out by 7:45 AM and NOT late for work!!! :p

Don't fret dude, you should get your EAD soon.........you took this experience on lighter vein (may be should have tried mocking like Rajesh Khanna or Dilip Kumar).
Anyways, thanks for sharing your experience.

Sizzu....good to hear from you again.
My plan of action: I will be suffering temporary amnesia until the time my EAD arrives or 90 days are over.
I don't think I will be realising the fact that my EAD is expired until either one of those happen!
Thats what TheRealCanadian (da Guru!) suggested. When I discussed this with my employer's lawyer...and he was like..."Nothing to worry...as long as you have the receipt for the renewal application...you can work legally".
So good luck for you.
I would say...don't lose your sleep on this issue...if you get an iEAD...Great...if you don't...keep working. You still have the 244(i/k) thing working for you.

Hi Hope...thanks for the consolation. Rajesh Khanna would have been good...did not think about him. I actually did about Dilip Kumar...but he is too intense...MISS GODZILLA would have called for security!!!
