my passport will expire in 6 months, is this a problem for stamping???

My 485 was approved at Nov 12 (RD 07/15/2003) and I have made an appointment for my passport stamping at Detroit office at Dec 1. As my passport will expire within 6 months (several days shorter than 6 months), will this cause me a problem for the stamping or not? Please advise me on whether I need to renew the passport before the stamping.

passport has to be valid for a minimum of 6 months for stamping. It is better you renew your passport first and then go for stamping
 
I've been wondering something, and maybe someone that's been approved can answer this. When you have small children, and they receive their approval, what does the USCIS stamp for them? Chances are they don't have their own passport. So what happens then?
